Next week, May 3-9, Grab N’ Grow will be participating in Compost Awareness Week, the largest and most comprehensive education initiative of the compost industry. This educational program is put on annually each May by the US Composting Council. The goal of Compost Awareness Week is to help communities across the United States celebrate and recognize the importance of using compost in our agriculture industries and home gardens. Compost not only helps create healthy soil and nutrient-rich food, but is also a major water-conserving method for home gardeners and farmers alike. To help make this a local event and support compost use in Sonoma County, we are hosting a FREE compost workshop on Saturday, May 9th at the Permaculture Skills Center in Sebastopol.
The workshop will take place from 10:30am-12pm and will begin with a short 10 minute tour of the Permaculture Skills Center and a brief introduction to their farm and landscape design schools. Then, Grab N’ Grow’s Operations Director and Master Gardener, Tom Shearer will lead the workshop and discuss the many benefits compost offers and what exactly happens when composting takes place. He will also teach attendees how to start their own small compost piles at home safely and efficiently with several different methods. We’ll end the workshop with a Q&A session and raffle prizes!
